New TTCN-3 TEST SUITES for 5G

3GPP is standardising the 5th generation of mobile telecommunications system (5G). The first operational version of the 3GPP 5G standards has been delivered in Release 15. It supports different deployment scenarios, the most prominent ones being:
- Non-Standalone (NSA) Option3: also known as EN-DC, with 4G LTE/EPC acting as the master carrier and 5G radio (NR) providing additional carrier(s) for high throughput operation.
- Standalone (SA) Option2: the ‘real’ 5G, using a new 5G core network (5GC) on top of the new 5G radio (NR).
Together with the core specifications, 3GPP also specifies and delivers a set of conformance test specifications, aimed at ensuring that any implementation of the 3GPP mobile technologies is compliant with the 3GPP core specifications.
The first set of 5G conformance test specifications have been produced by 3GPP, with main focus on the User Equipment (UE) testing. Together with the test specification documents, 3GPP also provides a reference standardised implementation of the conformance test cases developed in TTCN-3 language.
This TTCN-3 implementation is tested and verified using real UEs and real (hardware) network simulators. It is subsequently used by certification organisation to certify 5G-compliant UEs.
The Test specifications and related documents are available via 3GPP 5G test specs.
