TOPIC:

General structure of a TTCN-3 test system? 10 Oct 2006 08:40 #6958

Hi,

I browsed TRI (version 3.1.1) and TCI (version 3.1.1) spesifications and noticed
that the specifications describe the general structure of a
TTCN-3 test system in a slightly different way in the TRI and the TCI
specifications.

TRI spec. defines the structure as follows (in section 4):
* Test Management
* Test Control
* Test Logging
* External CoDecs
* Component Handler
* TTCN-3 Executable
* Encoding/Decoding System
* ETS

whereas TCI spec. defines the following structure (in section 6):
* Test Management and Control
* Test Management (identical description with TRI's TM/TC)
* Coding and Decoding (different description with TRI's TM/ECD)
* Component Handling
* Test Logging

The TC (in TRI spec.) seems to be identical with the TM part (in TCI
spec.) based on the description. However, it is not explicit whether the
External CoDecs in the TM of the TRI spec. is a synonym for the Coding and
Decoding part in the TMC of the TCI spec. In addition, it's not explicit how the
Encoding/Decoding System of the TRI spec. relates to all this. I get an
impression that the TE/EDS of TRI spec. equals with the TMC/CD of the TCI spec.
Can some one explain all this?

Regardless whether there are differences in definitions or not I hope that
inconsistency in structure naming will be fixed.

I was not able to check if there is already a CR for this because the web page
(www.ttcn-3.org/TTCN3cr.htm) pointed by PTCC portal
(portal.etsi.org/ptcc/) was not available. I got HTTP error message #404
(The page cannot be found).

Best regards,
Risto

General structure of a TTCN-3 test system? 10 Oct 2006 12:49 #6960

Dear Risto,

thanks for catching this inconcistency!

In fact the TRI has not been updated according to the developments on
TCI.

The encoding/decoding is in TCI-CD for external codecs. The TE may have internal
codecs.

The component handling is in TCI-CH.

In TRI, the section should be titled Test Management and Control - like in the
TCI section. There is no separate Test Control (TC), but a Test Management (TM).

We will revise the TRI text.

With best regards,

Ina.
