Standards and Specifications? 29 Nov 2002 05:47 #6288

Hello,
When I am reading the different Standards and Specifications I am confused of the evoluation path.
Can any body clarify me.
What are the standards in ISO-IEC 9646 standards part1, part2 and part 3 convey about.

What does TTCN-3 specifications convey about.
How they are related?

In ISO-IEC 9646 part-3 I have seen the TTCN abreviation as
"Tree and Tabular Combined Notation" and In TTCN-3 specification the abreviation is "Testing and Test Control Notation". Why this difference?

How can I get resource to understand the evolutoion of Confirmance testing.

regards,
Anil Krishna

ISO/IEC 9646-1 to 7 define a methodology and framework for conformance testing. Work started in 1983 and finished in the mid 90's. There are seven parts

1. General concepts
2. Abstract test specification
3. TTCN
4. Test realisation
5. Requirements on test labs
6. Profile test specifications
7. Implementation Conformance Statements

ISO/IEC 9646-3 defines TTCN-2 (the upgraded version is called TTCN-2++. Do not be confused, the name does not imply that TTCN became object oriented at that time. It was a temporary name that unfortunately stuck). ISO/IEC 9646 can be obtained directly from ISO or via your regional standards body. There is currently no work ongoing in ISO related to this standard (and not likely to be in the future either).

ETS 201 873 defines TTCN-3. This is the modernised version of the language developed by ETSI and renamed as the Testing and Test Control Notation. This version of TTCN can be downloaded from ETSI.

All these documents are also published as ITU-T recommendations.

Visit www.etsi.org/ptcc for more details.
