Hi Zhang,
TTCN in itself is not a method, but rather a language with which one uses to
implement
a testing method. The CTFM (Conformance Testing Framework and Methodology)
describes
4 single party testing methods (Remote, Coordinated, Distributed, and local)
Each of these also have multi-party variants.
The Remote single layer method is the most widely used since it is the
simplest and
the least intrusive/expensive from a manufacturer's point of view. The local
method,
where the tester is embedded in the IUT/SUT/DUT (Implementation Under Test,
System Under Test, Device Under Test) is the least popular.
There are other methods, (Ferry Clip) which is not standardized. To
familiarize
yourself with the various methods, you might want to have a look at the X.290
series from
ITU-T, these are detailed in the X.291 recommendation.
X.291 contains a useful Appendix which might interest you:
Applicability of the test methods to OSI protocols.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Claude.
PS: TTCN-2 was specifically conceived for conformance testing of OSI
compliant
protocols. It is the only internationally standardized test notation
which is
widely used. Of course, any language can be used for implementing a
test method, so long as it provides the needed facilities, TTCN is
the most
popular for conformance testing since it was originally conceived for
that
specific purpose.
